For Visitors
Monterey
is home to the world-renowned
Monterey Bay Aquarium,
a must-see attraction that delights and educates millions of
visitors every year. The Aquarium is open every day of the year
except
Dec. 25.
Step
outside the Aquarium and you're on
Cannery Row, where John Steinbeck drew
inspiration for his novel about life in Monterey during the
heyday of the sardine canning industry. Today "the Row" is lined
with hotels, restaurants, shops and fun activities for the
entire family.
From Cannery Row, you can walk or ride a rented surrey along the
scenic Recreation Trail to
Fisherman's
Wharf. Along the way, you'll see
abundant sea- and wild-life in natural
habitats on the dazzling waterfront
of the
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
History
surrounds you in Monterey, one of the most historic cities in California.
Original adobes are found on many street corners. Some are open
for tours, others house contemporary businesses. From
California's first theatre to Colton Hall, where the state's
first Constitution was written, you can trace Monterey's rich
past on the
Path of History.
Known for preserving its history, culture and natural
environment, Monterey is a leader in creating a
sustainable community by striking a balance
between tourism and residents in this small City.
Kayaking,
scuba diving, surfing and beach-going are just some of the activities
to be enjoyed in and around the Monterey Bay. Golf, shopping and
driving the spectacular coastline to Big Sur
are a few of the many land-based activities.
Monterey
is known for its fresh local seafood and dining experiences.
Hotels,
inns, shops and restaurants
are found in all the City's
business districts.
Monterey is a
destination that draws high attendance to conferences at its
state-of-the-art
Conference
Center for group meetings. The
Monterey County Convention
and Visitors Bureau provides the latest special offers
on lodging, dining and entertainment.
The City's
temperate
climate
year-round means visitors can enjoy a wide variety of
outdoor activities and
special events
all year. This summer, Monterey welcomes the
2010
U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. |
